๐Ÿ’œ Career Well-being: Is your experience working for youโ€”or against you?

Dear Thriving Introvert!

Personal note:

As you may have noticed, you didn't get my newsletter last week. It was the first time in the last 5 years that I took a break, and I had a few reasons for that:

  • My friend lost her 21-year-old daughter to pneumonia complications.
  • My sister-in-law lost her mom suddenly to a rare form of cancer.
  • My dog has been badly injured and needs me to carry her everywhere.

In the same week, I attended two funerals for two extremely loving people. I had no emotional or mental capacity to show up online. I've been reflecting on this:

Life is too short. You are replaceable in many places, including work, but irreplaceable to those who love you. You are irreplaceable for your family and friends. There is only one of you, and we need one another.

In a world that loves to talk about AI all the time (I'm very sick of it!), seeing people lose people makes the human experience even more fragile.

Why am I sharing this?

No matter where you are in your career or job search journey, it is okay to spend time with people, seek help, find connection, hug a friend, and call your family members. We need other humans. Don't miss the opportunity to reach out, share a laugh, and spend time together.

In this newsletter, I'll cover:

  • How to overcome ageism in the hiring process

Have you ever applied for a leadership role where your background was easily a 99% match, only to hear nothing back?

When qualified managers and directors hit this wall, itโ€™s easy to assume ageism is at playโ€”and the natural instinct is often to panic-edit your resume and LinkedIn profile, erasing decades of history or credentials.

As a former HR specialist, I can tell you that panic-editing isn't the answer.

Behind the scenes, talent acquisition teams and decision-makers carry subconscious biases around adaptability, tech fluency, and modern leadership styles.

When your resume reads like a chronological archive rather than a forward-looking leadership brief, recruiters make rapid assumptions about your readiness for today's workplace operations.

The solution isn't pretending you started your career yesterday. Itโ€™s executing a quiet strategy centered on positioning for relevance over longevity.

In my latest article, I share how leaders can modernize their job search assets (resume, LinkedIn) without losing their authority:

  • The 10โ€“15 Year Timeline Rule: How to curate your recent wins while preserving early-career brand equity.
  • Modernizing Your Messaging: Replacing generic "years of experience" summaries with high-ROI, outcome-driven metrics.
  • Discreet LinkedIn Optimization: How to set up your profile as a recruiter magnet using "Recruiters Only" settings while currently employed.
  • Interview Positioning: How to reframe the "overqualified" objection to highlight rapid time-to-value.

Talk next Thursday,
